To elaborate on counting a bit more... Since the summer, Lizzie has been keen on the idea of singular and plural. She's used plurals with ease (and appropriately) and has very cleverly figured out "one more" (index finger raised, no less) when she wants to eke out another book, cookie, trip down the slide, etc. So one and two are old hat. About six weeks ago, three entered the picture -- first as anything more than two, and then eventually as three. As in "three bears!", which she often declares upon seeing her three most beloveds in the crib (green bear, panda bear, and of course coco bear; there's actually a fourth bear, but somehow white bear (aka "Shlomo" hasn't been invited under the covers yet, and so endures a sort of second tier status.)) Then a little more than a month ago Lizzie picked up on five. One, two, and three were correctly enumerated, and anything more than three was five ("ive").
We've done a lot of counting to try to introduce and emphasize four... So about a week ago I heard the first suggestions of four (her "f" isn't clear, so it's sort of "oouuurrr"), but I didn't give credit until earlier this week when we were climbing the stairs -- uuhn, two, reee, oouuurr, ive... ix, evehn, eehhh, ine, ten! ten! ten!
Are you kidding me? Here I was hoping for "four" and I got the rest of the way to ten, too! Brilliant I tell you. (Apparently anything higher than ten is ten, though Eric claims to have heard eleven. I have not, but I was away yesterday, and these things come incredibly fast.)
So yeah, I'm impressed.
