Slowly catching up: June

Rather than trying to catch up on blog posts all at once, I'm going to take a gradual approach... Let's start with The Big Move in June.

June 6th (D-day, how fitting), I flew with Alice and Lizzie to New Hampshire. (Eric stayed behind to meet the movers, help pack, and eventually drive the cats northward four days later.) We had an uneventful airplane ride, though Lizzie once again waited until the plane started to taxi before announcing that she "really really" had to pee. Right then! (So we waited anxiously until we were airborne, begged out of our seats (I left Alice with a kindly grandmother across the aisle), and went to the potty in great haste. Lizzie was frantic... then... nothing. "I'm all done," Lizzie announced happily. Lovely. Thanks for that. Good fun. But apart from that little shenanigan it WAS a good flight. The kids did a great job. Auntie Sarah and cousin Maddie met us at the airport for the drive to Orford. Maddie did a great job entertaining the little ones in their car seats and was just SO polite and mature. Wow. Almost-five is a great age. Maddie is a star!

We then spent a week in Orford with my folks and another 2 weeks in Lyme with the O'parents while we waited for the closing on our house. We all survived remarkably well! Lizzie had many (many) outings: to the Montshire Museum (where we immediately joined as members -- such a great resource!), to the Cedar Circle Farm strawberry fest, to Post pond for swimming, to meet the critters at the Tullar farm, to auntie Sarah's Birthday party, and to Pat and Tony's General Store for ice cream. (The last has become a several-times-a-week destination, where Lizzie charms passers-by from her wicker chair on the front porch. She's such a great advertisement for ice cream cones, she she get the cones for free!)

Lizzie understood the move pretty well, I think. We had been talking about the "new yellow house" in VA, and had shown her pictures. When we got to NH, we would remind her of the sequence of events: a week with Grandma and Grandpa, then 2 weeks with O'Ma and O'Pa, THEN we move into the new yellow house.

Inevitably, Lizzie started getting really anxious for the new yellow house. Every time we drove by a yellow house, she would declare "that's my new yellow house!" We'd have to say, "no... that's "a" yellow house. Your's is a different one..." but I don't think she got it until we actually moved. (Once we were in the new place, we'd drive by those same yellow houses, and she'd proudly exclaim "That's A yellow house. But not my yellow house!" )

Once we were in the new yellow house, we had to wait a day before the movers came with our things. I was amazed to hear Lizzie asking for her "stuff". I didn't know she even knew that word. "No, Mama. No. We need to go get MY stuff. I need my stuff. Can YOU get my stuff?!" And when it came, it was July. More on that soon.

In the meantime, have a look at the Picasa site for a few pictures....
