Miss Elizabeth slept a whopping 9 hours and 45 minutes straight last night -- from 5:45pm to 3:30am -- and went nearly 11 hours between feedings. She took a quick feeding at 3:30 then slept through to 7:45am. This is the second time this week she's had just one feeding between 6pm (her ballpark usual bedtime) and 7am (when she usually wakes up). The last time was 3 days ago when she woke just once at 1am.
We're lucky that Lizzie has established fairly regular bed times and wake times. We've read a number of books on healthy sleep, scheduling, not scheduling, etc. and I'm pretty well convinced that she's taking the lead on her sleep pattern development. Once we figured out how to read the tired signs, we started getting her to bed (napping or overnight) as soon as she started yawning, getting that distant stare, or just fussing with a certain tone in her voice. But she's the one who decided somewhere along the line that once she's put down at or after, say, 5:30pm, she's not inclined to wake up again until she's hungry. Until recently, this meant once around midnight and again at 4 or 5am. With these longer sleep stretches, things are getting a bit random (two nights ago she was up at 10:30 and 3:30, which she hadn't done since 6 weeks or so), but I'm optimistic that she'll settle into a new routine very soon.
In any event, it's incredible how much and how regularly she sleeps. Lucky us! (And Lucky Lizzie -- when she is awake she's generally very active and in high spirits (with a few notable exceptions, of course).)
On that note, I think she'll be up from her first nap of the day soon. Better get into the shower and ready for the doctor's appointment! We'll let you know how it goes. No takers on the measurement bets?
